Focus on official’s accomplishments There has been a lot of hype about me in the past week regarding my Web site and the so-called “racy” pictures posted on it. As you may have heard, celebrity Web site TMZ.com visited my Web site and without my prior knowledge, posted a story about me being the “Hottest politician” in America. They did this without even contacting me for a comment. Things snowballed from there with other local and national media stations picking up on this “story” and blasting it all over the world.I want to set the record straight. For those of you who may not know, I have been a union actress, model and spokeswoman for many years even before I was elected to the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. I have always made my living in this way. As I worked my way through college, I was able to support myself and my sick father by working in this capacity. As a professional actress, it is necessary for me to portray myself in different attire. The pictures posted on my site show me in many different costumes and wardrobes. None of the pictures involve nudity. Furthermore, some of the pictures were taken or used for local charity events. The video on my site depicting me in a bikini stepping into a bathtub was actually a video shot by the Macomb County Historical Committee. The video is a documentary for St. Joseph’s (now Henry Ford) Hospital mineral baths. I have rheumatoid arthritis and they felt I would make a good model for the documentary. I am also the spokeswoman for Mineral Essentials, which is the company that manufactures the mineral bath products. For some reason, the media portrayed it as some type of sexy massage parlor video.I think time is better spent concentrating on some of the positive things that I have accomplished as your county commissioner. I have introduced legislation to make the animal shelter a “no-kill” facility. I have made it easier for veterans to obtain benefits through Macomb County. With the help of my fellow commissioners, I proposed a pay cut for county commissioners, which will take effect at the beginning of the year. I have also fought hard to get the county executive issue placed on the ballot for the voters to decide. People should focus more on what I am doing, than on what I am wearing. I am the daughter of a U.S. Marine Corps sergeant, who served in Vietnam. I am also the daughter of an ovarian cancer survivor. I have integrity, good intentions and I fight for what I believe in. At the end of the day, this is all I want to be known for. Carey Torrice Clinton Township
