The Box hosts the acting return of TMZ’s 2008 hottest politician: Macomb County Commissioner Carey Torrice

Macomb County Commissioner Carey Torrice will be featured in Glengarry Glen Ross at The Box Theatre.

MOUNT CLEMENS – What’s That Smell? is proud to present David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Glengarry Glen Ross. The drama follows the lives of four unethical Chicago real estate agents who are prepared to go to any lengths (legal or illegal) to unload undesirable real estate on unwilling prospective buyers.

The plot – which sounds familiar today – is partly based on Mamet’s experiences working in a Chicago real estate office during the late 1960s.

The Box Theatre co-founder Mathew Raya is making his directorial debut with Glengarry Glen Ross. “I’m excited to be working with this very talented cast of actors,” says Raya. “Even though Mamet won the Pulitzer in ’84 for this show, every word holds up and is timely for today.”

The cast includes Doug Clark, Michael Jeffries, Aaron Kurilik, Ben Feliciano, John Iwanski, Brian Rohe, Jeremy Strebendt and a special guest appearance by Macomb County Commissioner 16th District, Carey Torrice.

Torrice joins the cast as a way to raise money for the Michigan Humane Society. A tradition with What’s That Smell? productions, a percentage of ticket sales go to a local charity. Torrice has chosen the Michigan Humane Society as her beneficiary.

What’s that Smell? Productions opened The Box Theatre in September 2009 with the musical Nunsense Amen! The theater company manages its own 80-seat black box theater in the heart of Downtown Mount Clemens.

Future productions at The Box include The House at Pooh Corner (featuring a cast of local children grades 4-8) Feb. 26, 27 and 28; the hit Broadway musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee March 18 – April 3; and the Michigan premiere of the comedy Sealed For Freshness May 14 – June 6.

Glengarry Glen Ross runs Jan. 29-31, February 4-7 & 12-14 at The Box Theatre, 70 Macomb Place, Downtown Mount Clemens. All Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m., with the Sunday matinee shows starting at 2 p.m.
