What’s That Smell Opens the New Year with Glengarry Glen Ross

…featuring Macomb County Commissioner Carey Torrice

Mount Clemens, MI – What’s That Smell? is proud to present David Mamet’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Glengarry Glen Ross. Glengarry Glen Ross follows the lives of four unethical Chicago real estate agents who are prepared to go to any lengths (legal or illegal) to unload undesirable real estate on unwilling prospective buyers. The play is partly based on Mamet’s experiences working in a Chicago real estate office during the late 1960s.

The Box Theatre co-founder Mathew Raya is making his directorial debut with Glengarry Glen Ross. “I’m excited to be working with this very talented cast of actors,” says Raya. “Even though Mamet won the Pulitzer in ’84 for this show, every word holds up and is timely for today.”

The cast includes: Doug Clark, Michael Jeffries, Aaron Kurilik, Ben Feliciano, John Iwanski, Brian Rohe, Jeremy Strebendt and a special guest appearance by Macomb County Commissioner 16th District, Carey Torrice. Ms. Torrice joins the cast as a way to raise money for the Michigan Humane Society. As tradition with What’s That Smell? a percentage of ticket sales go to a local charity. Torrice has chosen the Michigan Humane Society.

Glengarry Glen Ross runs January 29, 30, 31, February 4, 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at The Box Theatre, 70 Macomb Place, Downtown Mount Clemens. All Thursday, Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 pm with the Sunday shows starting at 2 pm. Tickets are $16 for regular adult admission and $14 for seniors and students. Special discounted dinner packages are available at participating Downtown Mount Clemens restaurants – call the box office for more details.

The Box Theatre is an 80 seat black box theater that opened in September, 2009 with the musical Nunsense Amen! to sold out crowds. Future shows at The Box include The House at Pooh Corner (featuring a cast of local children grades 4-8) February 26, 27 and 28, the hit Broadway musical 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee March 18 – April 3, and the Michigan premiere of the hilarious comedy Sealed For Freshness May 14 – June 6.
