Legally Blonde 2 Movie Poster Causing Friction in Workplace
Who are we to judge, but it would seem like some county officials in part of the Detroit metropolitan area should spend less time worrying about movie posters in the office and more time solving the tremendous unemployment rate and budget shortfalls. A disagreement over office décor arose when Carey Torrice , D-Clinton Township decided to put a couple of movie posters on the walls of a vacant office used for board business, The Detroit News reported . Specifically, Torrice hung posters for Legally Blonde 2 and a James Bond film. That apparently didn’t sit well with the chairman of the board Paul Gieleghem , D-Clinton Township, who ordered Torrice to remove the posters, saying they inappropriately promoted the film industry. Torrice told The Detroit News that the ensuing verbal argument was colorful and ugly. Silly? Yes, of course. But it gets worse. When Torrice allegedly refused to remove the movie posters from the office, the posters disappeared a few days later. Gieleghem then issued a memo to the commissioners saying that decorating offices with personal belongings was prohibited. Nobody knows who removed the posters, but they are reportedly up on the walls again. As a big time fan of movie posters, but also fans of basic rights and logic, I think Gieleghem is being ridiculous. He is the Chairman of a county with an estimated population of 800,000. Detroit is struggling from the decline in the auto industry, and the jobless rate has risen steadily throughout the state. In fact, at a Board of Commissioners meeting in July of 2009, it was noted that Macomb County was suffering from a 16.2% unemployment level.
