LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

I am writing to directly respond to the recent Macomb Daily Insider article referencing the attire I chose to wear at my campaign victory party on Election Day.The article suggests that my choice of attire was un-classy. The issue at hand seems to be with the words party animal that are written across the front of my shirt. The Insider seems to see a problem with that. Now, let me explain the reason I chose to wear it. And believe me; I put a lot of forethought into it.

If you look at the picture of me at my election night victory campaign party (taken by the Macomb Daily) posted on my website www.CareyTorrice.com you will see that the shirt also has a depiction of the Democratic Donkey and the Republican Elephant dancing and partying with each other. I felt that this image would show, with some humor, that despite all of the political attacks and mudslinging that goes on during an election, once all is said and done and the votes are counted, everyone can join together despite their political affiliation and begin working together to make this country and our county a better place. In essence, it shows what are considered to be arch enemies getting along and interacting. Is that really so bad?

I am surprised (ok maybe not) that the Insider did not comprehend or understand this correlation. It is a shame that they didn’t have enough common sense or sense of humor to recognize it. Thank God the rest of the world did!

Instead of concentrating on what I wore to my campaign party, maybe the Insider should concentrate on more important issues we now face, like our local economy, jobs, health care, education and a change in our current form of county government. But then again, maybe the Insider feels that these issues are not as newsworthy or important as my choice in clothing.
