Vote often, just don’t do it on the same day
We’re all voting tomorrow right? Some of you won’t. Maybe I won’t. It depends if I can get my son out of the house. Family first, civic duty second. I work nights and watch my son during the day. Officials are predicting a 20 percent voter turnout on Tuesday. I’m predicting a 50 percent chance of getting my son dressed. My son, at the ripe, old age of 8, doesn’t seem to care much about politics. Although he wasn’t too thrilled when Obama was elected president. Must be all those rich friends of his. And, yes, 8-year-olds can be rich. There are many, many reasons people cite for not voting. The favorite, of course, is that politicians are all the same slaves to special interests with one eye on getting re-elected. But term limits can play havoc with a politician’s Cinderella dream of advancing from head greenskeeper at a golf course all the way to the White House. Term limits force a politician to spawn children in order to have enough people with the same last name so that their family never has to dirty their hands in the awful private sector. That’s where people now get this are actually accountable for their job performance. Voters also hate immature politicians. During mudslinging campaigns we see opponents accuse politicians like Jack Brandenburg of using the telephone to harass people. Twice. Jack, I hate to tell you this but the phone is not a toy. My son knows that. Not that I’ve never misused a phone. I’ve sent my share of tow trucks and pizzas to neighbors’ houses. Then there’s Carey Torrice. She’s an easy target because she’s not exactly a wallflower. Say what you want, but Torrice is one, sexy county commissioner. Normally I would hesitate to utter such words. But if you visit her website you’ll see that Mrs. Torrice is more than comfortable with her sexuality. Is it immature for an elected official to display photos of herself in a sexy cop uniform? Probably. Is it immature for President Obama to play basketball in repeated photo ops? Yes. Or how about former president George Bush referring to himself as The Decider, as if he finally realized a boyhood dream of attaining superherodom. Or how about another former president, Bill Clinton. Nothing more immature than fooling around with a younger woman. Well, thinking you might get away with it could be more immature. Back me up on that, guys. Then we have the immature maneuver by a fake Tea Party to get listed on the ballot, with hopes of splitting Republican votes. It’s an obvious political dirty trick by those who are trying to demoralize, diminish and disrupt the tea party movement, said Doug Till of the Southwest Tea Party Patriots in Kalamazoo. I’m sure Mr. Till hates to admit that people with tea party ideals are easily demoralized, diminished, disrupted and more importantly, duped. Contact Ed Fitzgerald at [email protected]
